- *WHAT’S GOING ON TOMARROW?*
Where do I begin? Yesterday’s matchup in Toronto was one of those games that kicked off pretty exciting, and ended pretty brutal. With a redeeming win under our belt from the day before, New York actually led this one heading in to the bottem of the 5th… but it stopped right there. That’s when Sergio Mitre fell apart, and the Blue Jays posted 8 runs in the 5th inning alone… When Melancon was finally called upon, Mitre departed with a disappointing 9 earned to call his own. Josh Towers made his debut on the mound, and what a debut it was…
- *IN YOUR FACE!*
So what can top David Wright catching a 95mph fastball to the helmet? How about Randy Ruiz catching a Josh Towers bullet to the face. It doesn’t get much worse then this folks. Here’s the conversation Towers’ is expected to have with his grandchildren one day:
GRANDSON: “Grandpa… Who was the first batter you ever pitched to in the majors?”
TOWERS: “I’d rather not talk about it. Go to sleep…”
GRANDSON: “But you pitched for the Yankees! Tell me!”
TOWERS: “Ok you little brat! His name was Randy Ruiz, and I beaned him in the face! Are you happy now? Thanks for pouring salt in my wounds!”

Well, if there’s one positive thing we can take from this 14-8 slaughter – Jeter’s only 3 hits away from Lou Gehrig’s franchise record. Jeter went 3 for 3, and we can almost garentee we’ll witness history in tomarrow’s double header.

And to think – the skeptics were concerned about Mitre on the hill…
A day after the world witnessed New York’s 12th walkoff of the season, Yankee fans got a glimpse of what games look like when they’re not close at all. In a display of heroics, Sergio Mitre took the mound and held the White Sox to one single hit over a 6.1 inning span. Chad Gaudin was given the daunting task of keeping that number in tact – and for the 2.2 innings he showed his face today, he did just that.

Talk about repetative hitting… Robinson Cano, Jerry Hairston Jr, Johnny Damon, and Hideki Matsui all had individual doubles off of Jose Contreras in this one…

Where do I begin? We all know the Red Sox kicked off this season undefeated against New York to stir up the rivalry. We all know that New York defied the critics and swept the Red Sox when the next chance presented itself. What would be a fair assessment for the next matchup?
Last night, we witnessed what most fans hadn’t even dreamed of. The Yankees didn’t just win – the Yankees dominated. New York put up so many runs, falling asleep couldn’t even help the Red Sox realistically comeback… Here’s the deal:
- *A-ROD ROBBED OF THE CYCLE*
It was definently a huge night for A-Rod, but what most people failed to notice is that he was an inch away from the cycle! The triple was there, the single was there – but the homerun fell a foot shallow of clearing the ‘Big Green Monster,’ – and the double was scratched when he was tagged out at second. Ok – so I guess he wasn’t really “robbed,” but missing those two hits in that fashion was a low-blow to me. He ended the day 4 for 4 with an RBI, and one run scored…
- *MATSUI ALMOST PARKED THREE*
What can top Rodriguez going 4 for 4? How about Hideki Matsui hitting 2 homeruns, and nearly hitting a 3rd to the right field wall! I know, I know… “almost doesn’t count,” – but when you smash two in the same game, and a long fly ball has the distance to clear the fence for another – power is power. “Almost” is approriate…

How did Derek Jeter handle pressure in Boston? *Yawn* The tipical .500 night with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored… Nothing major. Nothing remotely MVP worthy…

Damon was removed from the game after continuously hitting foul balls into his leg. C’mon now Johnny – save the ball-wounds for the pitchers that love you.

Another headline indeed. Teixeira may of had the best ‘underdog’ day of all, going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. That’s a ‘Tex message’ we all need to download…

Damaso Marte returned to the mound for the first time since May. He pitched a solid two-thirds of an inning, allowing nothing across the plate and striking out one.
