If you didn’t get a chance to catch today’s game at Fenway, congratulations… It was an ugly sight in Boston, as the Yankees went on to lose the second game of this series 14-1. You read correctly ladies and gentlemen… A day after scoring 20 runs against the Red Sox and putting up football numbers – we fall flat on our faces and lose by 13…
Burnett was ripped apart for 9 earned over the coarse of 5 innings, while Aceves and Robertson gave up a combined 5 runs to give Boston their grand total. The only players that deserve acknowledgement this time around are as follows:
1. Swisher went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored
2. Teixeira went 2 for 4
3. Cano went 3 for 4 (.750)

Here are the players that couldn’t get the bats connecting:
1. Matsui went 0 for 5
2. Cabrera went 0 for 4

*NOTE: I’m not pointing out the ‘hitless’ today to stab anyone in the back. All three of the players mentioned above are entitled to an off-day, (considering they come through in the clutch on a regular basis. Matsui had 2 homeruns yesterday, while Jeter’s been hitting everything thrown his way for weeks now…)

Where do I begin? We all know the Red Sox kicked off this season undefeated against New York to stir up the rivalry. We all know that New York defied the critics and swept the Red Sox when the next chance presented itself. What would be a fair assessment for the next matchup?
Last night, we witnessed what most fans hadn’t even dreamed of. The Yankees didn’t just win – the Yankees dominated. New York put up so many runs, falling asleep couldn’t even help the Red Sox realistically comeback… Here’s the deal:
- *A-ROD ROBBED OF THE CYCLE*
It was definently a huge night for A-Rod, but what most people failed to notice is that he was an inch away from the cycle! The triple was there, the single was there – but the homerun fell a foot shallow of clearing the ‘Big Green Monster,’ – and the double was scratched when he was tagged out at second. Ok – so I guess he wasn’t really “robbed,” but missing those two hits in that fashion was a low-blow to me. He ended the day 4 for 4 with an RBI, and one run scored…

What can top Rodriguez going 4 for 4? How about Hideki Matsui hitting 2 homeruns, and nearly hitting a 3rd to the right field wall! I know, I know… “almost doesn’t count,” – but when you smash two in the same game, and a long fly ball has the distance to clear the fence for another – power is power. “Almost” is approriate…

How did Derek Jeter handle pressure in Boston? *Yawn* The tipical .500 night with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored… Nothing major. Nothing remotely MVP worthy…

Talk about catching steam… The Yankees/Boston rivalry was already sizzling this season, as the Red Sox entered New York with a 1.000 win percentage in this year’s meetings. Would the Bombers go from hot – to not? Would the Yankees get swept for a third consecutive time, and go an incredible 0-12 against their sworn enemy?
Never. We all expected atleast a win or two, but New York came out of this one making a bold statement: We’re not the same slumpers you beat up on earlier this year! If this series didn’t prove how dominant the Yankees can potentially be – I don’t know what will…
Each game was epic in it’s own way:
GAME 1: The Yankees scored a staggering 13 runs, with 4 batters hitting 4 homers. Jorge came a triple away from the cycle…
GAME 2: Burnett vs. Beckett made game 2 the complete opposite. Both teams went an amazing 15 innings before A-Rod hit a 2 run walk-off to seal the deal. Another walk-off!
GAME 3: Sabathia, Hughes, and Robertson pitched 9 shutout innings, and New York went on to win this one 5-0. Cano broke out and went 3 for 4…
GAME 4: Pettitte pitched 7 scoreless innings before we finally notched a run on the board. Although the Sox took the lead in the top of the 8th, the Yankees responded with back-to-back homers from Damon and Teixeira to snatch the ‘W’.

I could make this post generic: Bash the Red Sox, downplay thier World Series rings – but I’m a man of respect. I’d be lieing if I said that Boston is trash…
Today it was revealed that “Big Papi” was found ‘guilty’ of using PED’s. If you’ve been living under a rock, the last big name caught up in the steroid scandal was none other than Manny Ramirez, former teamate of Ortiz – and fellow homerun sultan. One could assume that the juicing of these powerhouses has everything to do with the Red Sox recent success – but how should Yankee fans really react to the bombshell story at hand?
We should react like intelligent people. Everytime a new name is dropped in this steroid era we’re witnessing, it’s all too easy to forget about the last man thrown under the bus. Before Ortiz came Manny, and before Manny came A-Rod. The problem at hand stems far deeper than just the Boston/New York rivalry, so what I’m suggesting is: use your head. I’ve read numerous blogs at this point that fire shots at Ortiz, but how foolish can you be? It’s only a matter of time before every team has a name drop – so keep it cool and watch your opinions.

A.J. Burnett (9-4) vs. James Shields (6-6)
- *WHERE DOES IT END?*
The Yankees have been scorching hot lately, and with Burnett on the mound tomarrow – there seems to be no end in sight. Pitcher for pitcher, batter for batter, New York’s been playing some of the best baseball in the league since the All-Star break. Here’s a look at why:
A. Excellent Pitching
Outside of the loss on Saturday, our rotation’s been as good as the world predicted it could be. Pettitte, Chamberlain – even the shakey starters have been going deep and allowing practically nothing. The biggest surprise in my opinion has been Joba. In his last two starts, he’s made it beyond the 6th inning – looking every bit as dominant as A.J. or CC.
B. Excellent At-Bats
The hitting’s been huge for the Yanks, and it finally seems as though our huge investments are paying off. We already knew Teixeira was coming around, but like a lot of teams – you don’t want to rely on one or two players scoring your runs everyday. With Posada hitting homeruns, Hinske hitting homeruns, and even Jeter going yard – we’re really coming through when we need it the most.
C. The Red Sox Losing!
I can’t lie – the winning wouldn’t be nearly as sweet if the Sox weren’t slumping right now. If things were neck-and-neck this entire time, the wins would be downplayed by the need for sole possession of first.

Alfredo Aceves (5-1) vs. Francisco Liriano (4-8)
*You read correctly, Ace is in the place tomarrow folks. (It’s about time this guy gets a shot at starting…) His ERA has been microscopic the entire season, and ‘reliable’ is an understatement. I personally think he should of been penciled-in over Wang a while ago – we’ll see if my ‘foot’s in my mouth’ when tomarrow’s game ends… Doubt it.
– *MAN… BOSTON WON’T LOSE!*
The Yankees inched past the Twins 4-3 today, but despite our 6 game win streak… the Red Sox can’t seem to lose! We’ve been “1 game behind” for days now, and it’s painful to see us play so well – but maintain second in the AL east…
A.J. Burnett “earned his money” tonight, going 6.1 innings – and allowing only 2 earned runs. This means that Burnett, Sabathia, and Pettitte have breached the 8 win mark – and are showing no signs of ‘winding down’ any time soon. I don’t care what anybody says – I’d rather have our rotation begin the season shakey, picking up the slack when it’s neccessary – as opposed to beginning the season on fire, and fizzling out down the stretch. (*Cough* – Greinke…) Losses are losses, but sitting a single game behind Boston leaves no room for error. Beckett’s an excellent pitcher… Wakefield has 11 wins at this point… They’re an incredible team. You’re either on the same level, or you’re not… I know we have what it takes to shut ‘em down, and when the next series rolls around – we’re out for blood. You’ll see…
Brett Gardner had a 2 run single last night. I’m 99% sure he’ll be crowned rookie of the year this season – and that’s all that needs to be written regarding the matter. Look at the man’s stats… he’s leading rookies in every catagory at this point.

*Things just keep getting better and better for the Yankees…
Two losses to the Nationals, two losses to the Marlins – and just like that, we’re four games behind first. It’s funny what a couple weeks can change, right? Shaving-cream pies to the face… walk-off wins in the 9th… clutch hitting…
And now it’s back to playing catch-up. It’s discouraging – and things aren’t looking any brighter with Wang miraculously starting again tomarrow. What the heck is Girardi thinking? How many times do we have to see Wang lose before we decide to leave him in the pen for good this season? He’s now 0-5 with a 12.30 ERA – going head to head with a team that just added Nate McLouth to their recipe. This is insane lol.
CC left yesterdays game with ‘stiffness in his arm.’ Fantastic. The Red Sex won yesterday. Fantastic. The Blue Jays are 1 game behind us for second. Fantastic. It’s time to start winning in clusters again fellas, because things aren’t getting any easier this week.

*Wow. As a Yankee fan, I honestly can’t excuse the losses we’re taking from the Sox this year. (What’s there to excuse? We’ve lost every time!) What the heck is wrong with us!? We’re a first place team coming into Boston… and we leave Fenway with our tails between our legs! I can’t even believe what I witnessed – and it’s no laughing matter. Each one of these sweeps is a giant step backwards…
Things aren’t getting any easier as the week progresses. The Mets are up next, and eventhough they haven’t been playing their best ball this season… Johan pitches Sunday – and every little loss we encounter is huge. (I’m not saying the Johan win is garenteed,) but after seeing the Boston fiasco – I don’t know what to expect. Every one of our aces folded… Burnett, Wang, (which was half expected lol,) – than CC, who was a hair away from pulling off the win last night. I don’t even want to think about it… but for the sake of my blog, I’m keeping it real:
RED SOX FANS – enjoy it while you can. I have a funny hunch that eventhough you’ve embarassed us this season – it’ll come back to haunt you. The wins will pick back up tomarrow – we’ll climb back into first… and when we meet again – toward the end of the season especially – you’ll lose when you need it the most. The losses that determine first and second in the AL, (like the series this week…) only 1000x more meaningful.
I hate Boston. I hate Kevin Youkilis’ beard, I hate Duston Pedroia’s beard… and I hate the Red Sox. I hate “Big Papi” magically hitting homeruns again, I hate Lowell’s gray hair… I even hate J.D. Drew’s initial’s being “J.D.” I hate Fenway Park – I hate the monster… and you get my point.
